Public Service Announcement Regarding 68 River Road
To our residents and neighbors. In the last year there has been extensive vandalism and property damage located at 68 River Road, also known as The Coolidge Estate. This issue has been on-going and has recently created a public safety hazard to any person who enters the property and/or residence. The damage is extensive, and the building is not safe. Topsfield Police, while in conjunction with Topsfield Fire, Board of Health, Conservation Committee, Building Inspector, and the property owner are working to rectify this situation.
At this time the building has been officially condemned and should not be entered under any circumstance. There is major structural damage along with broken glass, dangerous interior conditions, and various openings on the property that drop 20 – 30 feet with no coverings. The buildings currently have a red X on the exterior which indicates that first responders should not enter the building unless there is absolute verification that someone is inside. If there is no confirmation, first responders will not be entering in the event of an emergency. In the recent months we have spoken to individuals we have found on the property and could have faced criminal charges but did not.
At this time, we are stressing that any individuals found on the property will face charges of trespassing, and any individuals found inside the dwelling would be facing a charge of breaking and entering.
Our first concern is the safety of all residents. We are hoping that the members of our community will assist us in speaking to any children and teenagers to warn them of not only the potential charges, but more importantly the concern for their safety.
